Our story begins in a Starbucks cafe in the middle of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Eager to search for talent to join their cybersecurity team, founders Lee Heng Yu and Toh Chuan Kai travelled to Vietnam to sponsor VNSecurity’s quarterly Capture-The-Flag competition, one of the country’s most renowned leagues organised by Vietnam’s leading cybersecurity community group.
There, they had the chance to speak with VNSecurity’s founder, Thanh, where the idea to collaborate on a cybersecurity product for businesses was born.
After advising companies on their cybersecurity practices, they identified three major pain points:
- Companies were unprepared to handle an influx of sophisticated attacks due to a global shortage of cybersecurity talent.
- Costly security solutions that were hard set up and had unsuitable features for the needs of smaller organisations.
- Users experiencing notification fatigue from frequent false alarms, causing legitimate attacks to go unnoticed.
Thanh felt more could be offered to clients with an in-house product, and his small development team embarked on a proof of concept. From there, Polaris was created as a security solution for internet-facing businesses.
