Polaris support DNSSEC

We are thrilled to announce Polaris now supports DNSSEC — domains protected by Polaris would be able to implement DNSSEC, an extra security feature to enhance their web security. With a few simple steps, you would be able to ensure that traffic to your site is now even more secure. Read on to find out why this is important!

What is DNS?

DNS or Domain Name System is often referred to as the phonebook of the internet. It matches IP addresses to domain names and helps users connect to websites when they enter the domain names into their browsers. However, DNS was first implemented in 1985 when malicious actors did not exist. If DNS is used in its original form without any additional security, traffic to websites is susceptible to on-path attacks or other types of DNS forgery attacks. These would lead users to other forged websites, even if they enter the domain name correctly into the address bar.

What is DNSSEC?

DNSSEC or DNS System Security Extensions adds a layer of authentication onto the existing DNS architecture. It functions by using public-key cryptography to sign existing records for DNS lookup. To describe it simply, these records can be verified to ensure that it was not altered during transmission, preventing on-path attacks or other types of DNS forgery attacks which DNS is susceptible to.
